Before You Were Born, You Were Loved

Before Time

My long distance pastor, Rick Warren, said something that changed my whole perspective of life once…

Most people think we sin because we don’t love God enough. But I believe we sin because we don’t realize just how much God loves us.

I believe strongly that receiving the love of God is one of the biggest keys to your spiritual growth. You can’t give away what you don’t possess, and we often try to fulfill the duty of loving God and others without a proper understanding of what the love of God actually looks like.

So here’s something Paul said about God’s love…

Long before he laid down earth’s foundations, he had us in mind, had settled on us as the focus of his love, to be made whole and holy by his love. Long, long ago he decided to adopt us into his family through Jesus Christ.

Ephesians 1:4-6 MSG

Think about the timing of that verse.

Before you were born…

Before you had ever taken a breath…

Before you uttered your first word…

Before you ever sinned…

Before you did all the bad stuff, the stuff you’re ashamed to admit…

Before you’d had thoughts of lust, jealousy, anger, hatred, or malice…

Before the world was even created…

God decided to make you the focus of his live.

He decided to adopt you into his very own family.

He decided he wanted you, so much that he made available his very own Son, who sacrificed himself in our place, to take the punishment for all of your sin so that, in trusting in Christ, you would be set free from sin’s penalty, power, and presence to really understand and comprehend the dimensions of God’s love for you.

Most Christians would agree on the subject of God’s unconditional love, because we know all the verses that speak of it. But there’s a big difference between knowing about God’s love and actually knowing God’s love by experience.

I’ve been walking with Jesus most of my life and I’ve still barely begun to wrap my mind around the immensity and intensity of God’s love for us.

Before… he decided in advance… to love you… to adopt you.

Receive that right now.
