If you only had a few weeks left in which to preach the Word to your beloved congregation, what would you say? What messages would you want to preach? That’s the question I’ve wrestled with all week. And at the end of all the searching, brainstorming, and praying to God for a Word from Him, I’ve finally landed on the most well-known verse in all the Bible… John 3:16.
For God so loved the world, that He gave His only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in Him should not perish, but have everlasting life.
In that verse are wrapped up four HUGE truths about life and eternity:
- God Loves the World. He loves it as He created it. He loves the lost human race. He loves you!
- God Gave His Son. He sent Him from heaven to earth to seek and to save that which was lost, watched Him exchange His life for ours, and has given Him dominion over all things.
- Anyone Can Believe In Him. As the old song says, “whosoever meaneth me.” You can believe in Him, not in the sense of just assenting to His existence, but you can rely on Him, trust in Him, and put the full weight of your eternity in His care.
- Believers Will Live Forever. Believing in Christ is a life and death matter for all of eternity, and God has prepared a place of complete bliss and beauty for all who trust Him here and now.
So those are the truths I’m going to deliver over the next few weeks from Bethel’s pulpit. I’ll post the notes (and hopefully the audio) here each week.
