After dropping my wife and kids off at the airport, I drove around downtown L. A. to kill time while making sure they got on their plane. I saw homeless people as I drove. Then I saw homeless people like Sylvester via InvisiblePeople.tv, which I discovered through a post by Danny Brown. Meet Sylvester…
I struggle with the issue of homelessness. I want to help, but I don’t have enough money, I’m afraid of being mugged, and I don’t live in that “world.” Are those excuses? Perhaps, but I’m really just saying the things many of us feel. So what do we do? How do we give a cup of cold water in Jesus’ name when it might mean getting mugged? Maybe we should at least start talking about it instead of pretending it’s not our issue.
Sylvester is my brother and he’s alone on the streets of Atlanta. What would you do for him, if you were me?
